Hogs Fall to No. 18 Kentucky in Bud Walton Arena

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas women’s basketball (11-12, 0-8 SEC) hung with No. 18 Kentucky (18-5, 5-4 SEC) for nearly three full quarters, but the Wildcats scored 51 points over the final 14 minutes to pick up a 93-73 win over the Razorbacks.

Kentucky center Clara Strack finished with a career high 33 points and 15 rebounds while Arkansas junior Emily Robinson scored a season high 20 points on 7-11 shooting from the field.

First Quarter – 17-17

  • Kentucky won the tip but missed a layup on its first possession. The Hogs came up empty on their first possession.
  • Emily Robinson hit a three-pointer for Arkansas’ first points of the game.
  • Taleyah Jones followed up with her first three of the game and the Razorbacks led for the first time at 6-5.
  • The Hogs hit three threes in the first four minutes.
  • Arkansas suffered a three-minute scoring drought and the Wildcats got up 15-11 with under two minutes left.
  • Bonnie Deas picked up two fouls in the first and sat for the rest of the half.
  • For the second straight game, Arkansas was tied at the end of the first quarter.
  • Robinson led all scorers with seven points.

Second Quarter – 28-34

  • Arkansas trailed 24-31 with two minutes left in the half.
  • Kentucky closed the quarter on a 9-2 run thanks to being in the bonus for the last four minutes of the half.
  • The Wildcats outscored Arkansas 17-11 for its lowest scoring quarter of the game.

Third Quarter – 49-60

  • Deas returned and opened the half with a three, her first points of the game.
  • The Hogs tied the game at 40-40 after Taleyah Jones hit two free throws following a lengthy review for a flagrant one on Kentucky’s Clara Strack.
  • Robinson hit her second three with under five minutes in the quarter and Arkansas led 44-41.
  • Kentucky was scoreless from the field for over three minutes midway through the third quarter.
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a nine-point lead thanks to free throws and a three from Asia Boone to make it 55-46 with two minutes left in the quarter.
  • Arkansas finished the quarter scoreless from the field in the final three minutes and one for its last seven.

Fourth Quarter – 73-93

  • The Hogs entered the fourth with four players with three or more fouls: Ware, Chlarson, Deas and Lawrence.
  • Kentucky opened the quarter with a pair of threes and an and-1 from Strack to make it 69-53 early. The Wildcats continued their run, up to 16-2, and led 79-53 with six minutes left.
  • Mayberry ended the run with a three.
  • Deas had her best quarter with 12 points and was 3-4 from beyond the arc. All 18 of her points came in the second half.

Game Notes

  • Kentucky dominated on the boards, 51-24, and scored 18 points off offensive rebounds.
  • Arkansas scored an SEC play-high 73 points.
  • Jones finished with 19 points, her 17th game in double figures this season.
