
Hogs Fight, Ultimately Fall to No. 16 Vanderbilt
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-8, 0-4) dropped its match to No. 16 Vanderbilt (11-1, 4-0), falling 5-2 on Friday at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Commodores took the early advantage with a win in the top spot, as No. 9 Celia-Belle Mohr/Sophia Webster defeated Olga Bienzobas/Carolina Gomez, 6-4. Vanderbilt claimed the doubles point after another victory from Valeria Ray/Trinetra Vijayakumar on court three. No. 82 Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell’s match went unfinished with the Razorback duo narrowly behind 5-6 at the No. 2 position.
The Commodores carried their momentum into singles play, winning the first set on five courts. On Court six, Webster grabbed a straight-set victory over J. Gomez, while No. 55 C. Gomez fell to No. 44 Mohr at the No. 1 position. O’Donnell cut into the lead with a 6-3, 7-6 (7) win at the No. 5 position.
Vanderbilt clinched the match on court three as No. 35 Stammel bested Pavlechova, 7-6 (6), 6-3. The remaining courts were played out, as Bienzobas forced a third set on court two, ultimately losing 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Koskel rounded out the night with a 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3 victory over Sonya Macavei on court four.
The Razorbacks will continue their homestand on Sunday, March 9 at 12 p.m. against No. 69 Missouri.
