Hogs Host Crimson Tide on Wednesday
Arkansas volleyball returns home this week for its final two matches at Barnhill Arena this season, starting with hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Alabama is beginning to find its footing after a tough last two seasons in conference play and swept LSU and South Carolina for its two SEC victories. The Crimson Tide have also taken a combined three sets from ranked opponents this fall, against Florida, Texas, and Tennessee.
Alabama ranks above Arkansas in opponent hitting percentage (.208), kills per set (12.40), blocks per set (2.03), aces per set (1.74) and digs per set (14.10). The Crimson Tide are the servers in the SEC and are in the top 10 in the conference in two other areas.
After opening conference play with a five-set win over Ole Miss, Arkansas has dropped 10 straight and is 5-17 on the season. The Hogs are 42-17 all-time against Alabama and are currently on a 10-match win streak against the Crimson Tide.
The Hogs’ rookies continue to shoulder a large portion of the team’s production on both sides of the ball. True freshmen combine for 74 percent of Arkansas’ blocks, 41 percent of kills and nine percent of digs. Journey Peppers currently leads the team in blocks per set (0.95) and Parker Duncan leads the team in kills per set (3.40), the first time Arkansas has had true freshmen lead those categories since 2009 and 2019, respectively.
Wednesday’s match will be broadcast live on SEC Network with Anne Marie Anderson and Leah Edmond on the call. First serve is set for 6 p.m., and tickets are available online, by phone, or in person via Razorback Ticket Center.
