Hogs Host No. 20 Tennessee, No. 11 Georgia to Open SEC Play
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 43 Arkansas women’s tennis team (7-3) opens its SEC slate with a pair of matches at Billingsley Tennis Center against No. 20 Tennessee (8-2) on Friday, March 1, at 4 p.m. and No. 11 Georgia (5-3) on Sunday, March 3, at noon.
The Razorbacks finished 2-0 last weekend with wins over No. 46 Kansas and No. 48 Northwestern. The Hogs have claimed the doubles point in each of their seven victories this season as the duo of Morgan Cross/Anet Koskel led the charge by clinching the doubles point in both matches this past week. Cross leads Arkansas with nine doubles wins followed by Koskel with seven.
The duo of No. 88 Carolina Gomez Alonso and Koskel posted strong performances last weekend, going 2-0 on courts one and six, respectively. Gomez Alonso secured the final point for the Razorbacks in their win over Kansas, while Cross sealed the victory over Northwestern on court four. Gomez Alonso leads the team with five singles wins and picked up her first ranked win of the spring over No. 108 Justine Leong (Northwestern).
The No. 20 Lady Volunteers have started the year 8-2 and most recently defeated UCF on Feb. 16 and Florida State on Feb. 18. Seniors No. 23 Sofia Cabezas and Lauren Anzalotta are both 7-1 this season while Cabezas, junior Elza Tomase, and graduate Alana Wolfberg head the Tennessee lineup. The Lady Vols also feature sophomore No. 94 Catherine Aulia, who currently holds a 6-3 record. In doubles, the duo of No. 40 Cabezas and Tomase are 4-2 this spring while Aulia and Anzalotta are tied for the team lead with six doubles wins.
No. 11 Georgia is coming off a 4-1 victory over rival Georgia Tech on Feb. 18. The Bulldogs will play at Missouri on Friday before their match against the Hogs on Sunday. Georgia is led in singles wins by sophomore No. 95 Anastasiia Lopata, who is 6-2 at the No. 4 position. The Bulldogs feature five ranked players in Lopata, junior No. 34 Dasha Vidmanova, sophomore No. 48 Alexandra Vecic, junior No. 63 Mell Reasco, and junior No. 89 Mai Nirundorn. No. 23 Nirundorn and junior Guillermina Grant have posted a 5-2 doubles record while No. 22 Vidmanova and freshman Aysegul Mert head the Georgia doubles lineup with a 4-3 record this year.
