Hogs In 5th At Jerry Pate Intercollegiate
Vestavia Hills, Alabama – The Arkansas men’s golf team fired identical rounds of 5-over 285 on Monday to sit alone in fifth place at 285-285 – 570 (+10) after day one of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate at Old Overton Country Club.
A pair of top 25 teams sit atop the leaderboard, as No. 21 Baylor and No. 3 Auburn are deadlocked at 2-under, while UAB (+4) is third, UNLV (+7) is fourth and Arkansas rounds out the top five and is 12 shots back of the lead.
Luis Garza had the low round of the morning for the Razorbacks, recording a 2-under 68 with four birdies, including three consecutive birdies on the back nine. He came back in the afternoon with a 4-over 74 to sit T-18th with rounds of 68-74 – 142 (+2) to lead the way for Arkansas.
Alvaro Ortiz tallied three birdies in each round and finds himself T-22nd overall at 72-71 – 143 (+3), while Mason Overstreet saved his best golf for the afternoon and fired a 3-under 67 with five birdies to bounce back from an opening round 7-over 77. He ended the day at 77-67 – 144 (+4) and T-25th overall.
Charles Kim and Dylan Naidoo rounded out the team and are separated by two shots. Kim is T-30th overall at 71-74 – 145 (+5), while Naidoo is T-36th at 74-73 – 147 (+7).
Arkansas leads the 12-team field in par three scoring through the first two rounds at 6-over, while Overstreet paces the tournament in par five scoring 3-under.
