Hogs Lose to Tigers in Finale
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 24 Arkansas (29-16, 11-10 SEC) fell behind early and was unable to complete its sweep of Missouri (21-23, 4-17 SEC), suffering a 6-1 loss in the series finale Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.
Despite the loss, which snapped the Razorbacks’ nine-game winning streak against the Tigers, Arkansas concluded the weekend with its fourth consecutive series win in Columbia, Mo., and sixth consecutive series win against Missouri.
Missouri tagged Arkansas starter Colin Fisher for five runs on four hits and a walk in his 1.1 innings of work on the mound to open a 5-0 lead after the first two frames. The Tigers scored three in the first and two more in the second.
Over the remaining 6.2 innings, however, the Razorback trio of Gabe Gaeckle (2.2 IP, 1 R, 4 SO), Parker Coil (3.2 IP, 5 SO) and Cooper Dossett (0.1 IP) combined to limit the Tigers to just one run while striking out nine in relief of Fisher.
Arkansas’ offense could not take advantage of the strong work by its bullpen. The Hogs stranded six runners on base, finishing Saturday’s setback 2-for-14 (.133) with runners on and 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
Zack Stewart’s RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the ninth produced the Razorbacks’ lone run of the afternoon. Arkansas avoided being shut out by an SEC opponent on the road for the first time since a 1-0 loss at Texas A&M on May 16, 2024.
Up next, the Hogs return inside the friendly confines of Baum-Walker Stadium for their final two midweek games of the campaign. Arkansas hosts Northwestern State in a double midweek series from April 28-29 to close out the month.
