Hogs Set to Face Huskies, Redhawks in Doubleheader
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (6-2) hits the road for a doubleheader in The Evergreen State against Washington (3-4) and Seattle (2-6) on Saturday, February 17.
The Razorbacks are back in action after a 4-1 win over Drake on Wednesday night. The Hogs claimed the early lead after a doubles sweep with victories from Jared Horwood/Melvin Manuel and Connor Smillie/Jake Sweeney. Smillie and Sweeney lead the team with five doubles wins and hold a 4-0 record when playing together. The trio of Stefanos Savva, Alan Sau Franco, and No. 107 Melvin Manuel all posted strong performances against the Bulldogs in singles play, securing straight-set victories to help clinch the match for Arkansas.
Washington has started the season 3-4 and is coming off a 6-1 loss to No. 18 San Diego this past weekend. The Huskies have picked up wins over Idaho, Portland State, and Wisconsin. Senior Han-Chih Lin leads Washington with five singles victories while primarily playing on court three with juniors Dzianis Zharyn and Cesar Bouchelaghem heading the lineup at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. In doubles, the duo of No. 10 Bouchelaghem/Zharyn lead the team with three wins in the top spot for the Huskies.
Seattle is off to a 2-6 start this spring and recently split a pair of matches against George Fox and Oregon. The Redhawks have earned victories over UC Riverside and George Fox this season. Seattle is led by junior Filip Stipic, who leads the team with three singles wins while sophomore Yu-Han Hsieh, junior Veselin Kiselkov, redshirt junior Jun Sasagawa, and senior Julian Worn have all claimed two victories of their own this year. Hsieh, Stipic, Worn, and junior Michael Frank are tied for the team lead with three doubles wins.
