
Women's Tennis Set to Face Kansas and Wisconsin
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team hits the road again, traveling to Lawrence, Kan. to face Wisconsin (3-1) on Saturday, February 8 at 11 a.m. and Kansas (5-0) on Sunday, February 9 at 12 p.m.
The Razorbacks are back in action after a doubleheader against Drake, sweeping the Bulldogs twice. The Hogs started each match off strong by winning the doubles point. No. 57 Carolina Gomez picked up two more singles wins, improving to 4-0 on the season. No. 66 ranked duo of Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell grabbed their first doubles win of the season last Saturday, winning 6-3 on court one.
Wisconsin has started the season 3-1 and is coming off a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois on January 31. The Badgers have also earned victories over No. 24 Arizona State and Milwaukee. Wisconsin is led by No. 5 Maria Sholokhova, No. 82 Taylor Cataldi and Ekaterina Ivanova, who are a combined 6-3 in dual matches. Senior Ariel Johnson is also tied for the team lead with four singles wins while competing on courts four and six this season. The duo of Sholokhova and Alina Mukhortova are ranked No. 15 in the latest ITA doubles rankings.
Kansas is off to a 5-0 start this spring and is coming off a doubleheader against Wichita State and Omaha in Lawrence, Kan. The Jayhawks have also picked up victories over Creighton, Kansas City and Iowa. Kansas is led by Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren. Mulville has four wins in the No. 1 position, while Van Vuuren has collected two. Freshman Anna Putilina has secured three victories on court six to begin the year. The tandem of Mulville and Van Vuuren are 5-0 in doubles at the No. 1 position while Putilina and Yerke Arystanbekova hold a 2-0 record on court two.
