Hogs Suffer Game 2 Setback vs. Crimson Tide
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 14 Arkansas fell to No. 15 Alabama, 5-1, in game two Saturday at Bogle Park. A program single-game attendance record of 3,900 fans packed inside Bogle Park.
The loss forces a Sunday rubber game set for 1 p.m. CT on ESPNU with Roy Philpott (play-by-play) and Madison Shipman (analyst) on the call from Bogle Park. Arkansas is chasing its fourth straight ranked series victory and back-to-back series wins vs. the Crimson Tide for the first time in program history.
The Hogs move to 31-12 overall and 10-7 in league play this season.
Arkansas claimed an early 1-0 lead in the first after Reagan Johnson scored from third on a wild pitch. The Razorbacks held onto the lead until the Crimson Tide put up five unanswered runs in the fifth for a 5-1 advantage. Four of Alabama’s five runs were unearned.
Reagan Johnson and Kennedy Miller each compiled multi-hit performances to round out the Razorback offense. Following a 2-for-4 outing, Johnson tallied her team-leading, 18th multi-hit game this season. Miller strung together her 13th multi-hit effort after going 2-for-3 at the dish. Raigan Kramer and Lauren Camenzind added one base knock apiece.
LHP Robyn Herron made her 15th start on the season and spun effectively for 4.2 frames, giving up just one earned run on four hits while striking out seven. Erasing the first 10 batters she faced, the southpaw did not allow a base runner until Alabama singled to right field with one out in the top of the fourth. The Tampa native specifically dominated during the second and third frames when she punched out five in a row. Herron also did not walk a batter vs. the Crimson Tide.
In the top of the fifth, back-to-back base knocks by Alabama positioned runners at the corners with nobody out. A fielding error by Arkansas then allowed the Crimson Tide to tie the game at 1-1. A one-out single through the left side plated an unearned run to grant Alabama a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Morgan Leinstock took over in the circle and conceded a three-run home run. Reis Beuerlein kept Alabama off the board in 2.1 innings of relief and limited the Crimson Tide to just two hits. Beuerlein amassed a strikeout and walked a batter.
