Hogs Take Series in Run-Rule Fashion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 11 Arkansas (30-12) scored early and often to cruise to an 11-1 (5 inn.) win vs. UAB at Bogle Park Saturday. In their 11th run-rule decision this season, the Razorbacks clinched the series against the Blazers.

Improving their record to 30-12, the Razorbacks now have six straight 30-win seasons under eighth-year head coach Courtney Deifel. Prior to Deifel’s tenure, Arkansas only had six 30-plus win seasons across 19 seasons.

Arkansas exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits with all runs scored in the first and fourth frames. Eight Razorbacks recorded at least one hit.

In her fifth start and second complete game this season, freshman LHP Hannah Camenzind (3-2) was efficient in the circle, throwing 69 total pitches. Camenzind limited UAB to one unearned run on three hits and struck out one across 5.0 innings. Camenzind did not allow an extra-base hit and walked one batter.

The Razorbacks punched early with a four-spot in the first inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, redshirt junior designated player Rylin Hedgecock did what she does best and unloaded a two-RBI double for an early 2-0 lead.

The quick scoring didn’t stop there. Freshman catcher Lauren Camenzind drove in a run on a fielder’s choice making it 3-0. Junior third baseman Hannah Gammill smoked an RBI single to the pitcher, putting the Hogs ahead 4-0.

After back-to-back scoreless frames by freshman LHP Hannah Camenzind, the Blazers cut Arkansas’ lead to 4-1 after two errors.

Following a quiet third frame offensively, the Hogs strung together a seven-run bottom of the fourth. Gammill commenced the eruption with a leadoff double to right center. Hannah Camenzind helped her own cause and blasted an RBI single up the middle for a 5-1 lead. An Atalyia Rijo double put runners on second and third, allowing freshman Reagan Johnson to muscle a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Razorbacks up 7-1.

Johnson later stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by UAB. Johnson then took home on a wild pitch to increase the advantage to 8-1. Fifth-year second baseman Kristina Foreman cracked an RBI single to center for a 9-1 lead. Arkansas added its final runs off the bat of Hannah Camenzind again. Camenzind raked a two-RBI double to right center to put the Hogs in front 11-1.

A trio of Hogs had multi-hit performances Saturday. Hannah Camenzind anchored the Razorback offense and finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Hannah Gammill went 2-for-3 with an RBI and walk. Sophomore Raigan Kramer also went 2-for-3. Rylin Hedgecock drove in two runs on a double. Reagan Johnson posted a 1-for-3, two-RBI outing. Lauren Camenzind and Kristina Foreman each recorded an RBI base knock. Atalyia Rijo added to Arkansas’ hits tally with a double.
