Hogs shut out Redbirds 7-0

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 47 University of Arkansas men’s tennis team sailed to its first dual victory of the season on Saturday sweeping past Illinois State, 7-0.“The team played really well today,” head Razorbacks coach Robert Cox said. “It feels really good to get that first win under our belts.”

The Hogs (1-2) won the doubles point for the first time in three dual matches this spring as the No. 14 duo of Blake Strode and Matt Hogan bested the No. 56 team of Skip Span and Daniel Tobar, 8-5 and the Razorbacks’ new doubles team of Chris Nott and Dmitry Lebedev kept their win streak alive at No. 2 doubles beating Filip Miljevic and Timon Reichelt, 8-1. Nott and Lebedev are undefeated in three matches since being partnered together last weekend against No. 5 Virginia and No. 34 Wisconsin.

Arkansas’ No. 3 doubles team, Taylor King and Tyler Tarnasky, were also successful, taking down Michael Hobson and partner Micah LeMoine, 8-2.

The wins continued to pile up on the singles court as Nott downed Span, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position, followed by No. 15 Strode clinching the match for the Razorbacks at No. 1 singles with his, 6-1, 6-0 win over Miljevic. LeMoine retired in the middle of the first set of his match at No. 6 singles with Tarnasky with the Hog winning in a final of, 4-0, ret.

At No. 2 singles No. 39 Hogan and opponent Reichelt went to a second set tiebreaker, with Hogan winning the set and the match, 6-3, 7-6(6). Lebedev had little trouble in his match against Tobar, winning, 6-4, 6-1 and Taylor King, in his first dual match of the spring, picked up a win over Hobson by the final score, 6-3, 6-4.

“I like the way we played today,” Cox said. “We’re ready for tomorrow which I am expecting to be a very tough match for us against a solid Purdue team.”
