Isabel Van Camp named SEC Runner of the Week
BIRMINGHAM – Winning the Chile Pepper Festival 5,000m race this past weekend earned Razorback junior Isabel Van Camp the SEC Runner of the Week accolade as her winning time of 15:58.0 was the third fastest time by a SEC runner over the past 14 years.
It was also the third best time in the past 10 installments of the Chile Pepper Festival, which previously held a 6,000m race for the women.
Van Camp ranks behind a pair of Razorbacks – Taylor Werner (15:45.4) and Katie Izzo (15:50.2) – who produced their times in the 2019 Chile Pepper Festival.
The effort by Van Camp moved her ahead of Razorback Dominique Scott, who ran 16:01.1 in 2014 and 16:07.2 in 2015, as well as Missouri’s Karissa Schweizer, who posted a 16:09.9 in the 2016 Chile Pepper race.
Van Camp improved her previous best over a cross country 5k distance of 17:16.6 from 2021 on the Missouri Gans Creek course. Her time leads the conference this season over a pair of times that include 16:02.1 and 16:05.0 set by Alabama’s duo of Mercy Chelengat and Hilda Olemomoi this past weekend at Notre Dame.
