Jackson A Candidate For Senior CLASS Award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas woman’s basketball player Jessica Jackson was named as a candidate for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award in college basketball it was announced today.

The Jacksonville, Arkansas native is one of 30 women’s basketball players selected. From the list of 30 candidates, a committee will select 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in February. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.

Jackson is majoring in recreation and sport management. She is on track to graduate at the end of her four years at Arkansas. Some of her academic honors include being selected to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll in 2014 and being a member of the University Academic Honor Roll.

Jackson is just the fourth player in program history to earn SEC First Team honors (2016). She is a three-time all-conference selection, a three-time Associated Press All-SEC selection, and she ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in scoring, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three-pointers made and blocked shots as a junior.

Jackson is the second-fastest player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. She is one of just three Razorback women’s basketball players to record at least 1,600 points, 600 rebounds and have 120 or more blocks.

Jackson has scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games this year and 91 career games. She posted a career-best 34 points in a win over Houston Baptist and currently ranks third in the SEC averaging 17.6 points per game.

ABOUT THE AWARD
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring. Premier Sports Management manages the award.

Arkansas continues its two-game home stand against LSU on Sunday, before traveling to Texas A&M (Jan. 12) and Alabama (Jan. 15) for back-to-back road games next week. Future home games include Vanderbilt (Jan. 19), Missouri (Jan. 23), Georgia (Feb. 2), No. 5 South Carolina (Feb. 5), No. 24 Kentucky (Feb. 16) and Auburn (Feb. 26).
