Vrba Advances as Day Three of the ITF 15K Fayetteville Concludes
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team concluded the third day of the ITF 15K Fayetteville late Wednesday night after a lightning delay caused play to be suspended and eventually moved indoors.
Two Razorbacks faced off in the first round of the singles main draw as Jakub Vrba defeated Gabriel Elicha Navas, 6-1, 6-1. Blu Baker narrowly bested Lukas Palovic in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 0-6.
In the doubles main draw, Palovic and Ben Weintraub fell to Ioan Alexandru Chirita and Alan Magadan, 4-6, 2-6, on Court 2. After being moved to Court 4 due to scheduling constraints, Connor Smillie and Vrba were knocked out by Mikael Arseneault and Matthew Rankin, 2-6, 3-6.
Four Hogs will be in action Thursday afternoon as Vrba faces Albert Pedrico Kravtsov in the second round on Court 2. Brendan Boland and Marino Jakic take the court versus James Hopper and Braden Shick in the quarterfinals following Vrba’s match. Navas and Blu Baker will play Michal Novansky and Benito Sanchez Martinez on Court 1 as they look to advance to the semifinals.
