Jakub Vrba Advances as Day Three of the ITF 15K Fayetteville Concludes
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team concluded the third day of the ITF 15K Fayetteville late Wednesday night, after a lightning delay caused play to be suspended and eventually moved indoors.
The Razorbacks had two teammates battling it out, with Gabriel Elicha Navas falling to Jakub Vrba, 6-1, 6-1 in the singles main draw. Vrba will advance to the second round of the singles main draw after the victory.
Blu Baker bested Lukas Palovic in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 0-6.
In doubles play, Palovic and Ben Weintraub fell to Ioan Alexandru Chirita and Alan Magadan, 4-6, 2-6 on Court 2. After being moved to Court 4 due to scheduling constraints, Connor Smillie and Vrba were knocked out by Mikael Arseneault and Matthew Rankin, 2-6, 3-6.
There will be four Hogs in action on Thursday afternoon. Vrba will begin his second round matchup in the singles main draw against Albert Pedrico Kravtsov on Court 2, before Brendan Boland and Marino Jakic start their quarterfinal matchup against James Hopper and Braden Shick in the doubles bracket. Navas and Blu Baker will play Michal Novansky and Benito Sanchez Martinez on Court 1 as they look to make it to the semifinals.
