Jaydon Hibbert wins season debut triple jump in Bermuda

DEVONSHIRE, Bermuda – In his season debut, Arkansas alum Jaydon Hibbert covered a distance of 56 feet, 10.25 inches (17.33w) from an eight-step approach to win the triple jump at USATF Bermuda Grand Prix on Sunday.

With an aiding wind of 4.3 meters per second, the mark by Hibbert is second best in the world for the 2024 outdoor season under all-conditions. The wind-legal world leader is 57-5.5 (17.51) by Portugal’s Pedro Pablo Pichardo set in the Xiamen Diamond League meet last weekend.

Runner-up in the competition went to Bermuda’s Jah-Nhai Perinchief, who trains in Fayetteville, with a mark of 56-2.5w (17.13) that was aided by a 4.5 wind. Finishing third was Jamaican Jordan Scott with a wind-aided 55-11.25 (17.05) that had a 3.8 assisting wind.

In his first competition since the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, last August, Hibbert produced his winning mark as the last jumper in the first round among a field of six jumpers. He also had a mark of 55-9.75w (17.01) in round three with a 3.4 wind.
