Jordan Anthony third in 60m, posts No. 3 time in UA history
ALBUQUERQUE – Jordan Anthony’s debut with the Razorback track and field team had him finishing third in the 60m final with a time of 6.62, equal No. 3 on the Arkansas all-time list, on the second day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
“I’m excited, I’ve started the indoor season a little later than some other sprinters,” noted Anthony, who is also a member of the Razorback football team. “We still have five weeks until the NCAA Indoor.
“If anybody is thinking I didn’t do what they thought I would do, just watch. This is just the beginning. Just watch, and enjoy the show. It will pick up.”
LSU’s Myles Thomas won the 60m final in 6.59 with Marcellus Moore of Texas runner-up in 6.60. Anthony and Tennessee’s Nolton Shelvin shared the time of 6.62, with Anthony earning third place with a 6.612 to 6.619 edge over Shelvin.
Razorback Lance Lang finished seventh in the final with a 6.71 after equaling his career best of 6.64 in the prelims, which was second best. Anthony posted a 6.70 in the prelims, which was fourth best among the qualifiers for the final.
On the Arkansas all-time list, Anthony trails the 6.56 school record set by Kenzo Cotton in 2016 as well as 6.60 by Jarrion Lawson from 2016. Anthony is equal to a 6.62 by Kristoffer Hari from 2020.
“The time is ok for today, everybody knows I can run faster,” noted Anthony. “I’m a little bumped up a little bit from football training. At the end of the day it was a good race, there are some things I need to clean up. It’s a great opener for me, though.
“I didn’t have a good start, some guns are loud, some are low. I don’t want to anticipate it going off, because that could cost you big time. I trust myself, I trust my speed, and I trust Coach Case with the training.”
Arkansas freshman John Kendricks equaled the career best of 17-8.5 (5.40) he set last week in placing fifth in the pole vault.
Kendricks remains equal No. 5 on the UA all-time list. He opened with first attempt makes at 16-2.75 (4.95) and 16-8.75 (5.10). Then he needed a pair of attempts in getting over 17-2.75 (5.25) and 17-8.5 (5.40).
Three attempts followed at 18-2.5 (5.55), which would be No. 2 on the UA all-time list behind the school record of 18-10.25 (5.75) set by Andrew Irwin in 2015.
In the 60m hurdles, Brevin Sims (7.80) and Tai Brown (8.24) finished sixth and eighth. During the prelims, Brown and Sims each clocked 7.81 with Brown holding a 7.802 to 7.806 edge. William Spencer, Jr. posted a 7.88.
In the 4 x 400m relay, the Razorback B squad placed fifth overall with a 3:10.68 from a foursome of Wyatt Green (49.27), William Spencer, Jr. (45.94), Isaac Carney (47.83), and Ethan Carney (47.64).
The Arkansas A squad did not finish following an opening leg split of 46.20 by Connor Washington. Tennessee posted a winning time of 3:04.30 with TCU runner-up at 3:08.25.
