
Kiner breaks long jump meet record at Spring Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE – Razorback Henry Kiner set a meet record in the long jump as he reached a distance of 25 feet, 6 inches (7.77) while using a short approach during the Arkansas Spring Invitational at John McDonnell Field on Saturday.
Kiner bettered the meet record of 25-1.75 (7.66) set in 2018 by Ifo Otuonye of Turks & Caicos. The mark by Kiner came on his lone jump of the competition.
Razorbacks Uroy Ryan and Juriad Hughes, Jr., both produced the same distance of 24-0.75 (7.33) in placing third and fourth. Ryan had a better secondary mark of 23-10.75 (7.28). Sebastian Berntsen finished sixth with a 23-9.5w (7.25) mark.
Arkansas won both relays, opening with a 39.36 victory in the 4 x 100 from a foursome of Connor Washington, Tevijon Williams, Steven McElroy and Jordan Anthony. They just missed the meet record of 39.31 set in 2018 by the Razorbacks.
A second Razorback squad finished runner-up in 40.00 with a crew that included Karamoko Sacko, Brandon Battle, Jaden Smith, and Jonah Vigil. The jumps crew finished fifth in 40.87 with a line-up of Berntsen, Kiner, Uroy, and Hughes.
In the 4 x 400m relay, the Razorbacks claimed the win in 3:06.94 over Louisiana Tech (3:09.35) and Kansas (3:09.96) with a crew that included Battle (46.49), Smith (46.10), McElroy (48.30), and Vigil (46.05).
They just missed the meet record of 3:06.45 set in 2012 by Arkansas.
Brian Masai won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:11.40 in his debut in the event. Oklahoma State’s Tate Barr finished runner-up with a 9:19.50.
Zyaire Nuriddin produced a 46.65 victory in the 400m over a 46.76 for Nate Watson of Pittsburg State.
Scottie Vines claimed the high jump with a 6-11.75 (2.13) clearance and attempted 7-2.5 (2.20) off a short approach. Cooper Williams (6-8.75) and Joshua Blakely (6-6.75) tied for fifth and eighth place, respectively.
Wiliams finished second in the 100m with a 10.25w (2.4 wind) while Washington placed fourth overall with a 10.32w. Smith finished runner-up in the 200m with a wind-aided 20.80 (4.0 wind) behind a 20.27w for Dapriest Hogans of Pittsburg State. Vigil finished second in another section of the 200m in 20.89w (3.2 wind).
In preparing for the decathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays next week, Marcus Weaver placed second in the discus with a toss of 159-10 (48.72) while alum Jack Turner finished fourth with a 138-4 (42.16) mark.
