Kozeal Named Brooks Wallace Award Semifinalist

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Arkansas’ Camden Kozeal is one of 50 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the country’s top shortstop. The award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation, is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-80 and died of leukemia at the age of 27.

The Razorback shortstop is slashing .305/.394/.604 with 11 home runs and 48 RBI through 41 games played this season. Kozeal leads Arkansas in numerous offensive categories, including hits (50), doubles (14), RBI (48) and total bases (99).

Defensively, Kozeal has committed just six errors in 156 total chances (.962 fielding percentage) while helping turn 22 double plays. The Omaha, Neb., native began the season as the Hogs’ second baseman before moving to shortstop.

Kozeal was named the Brooks Wallace Award Shortstop of the Week on March 24 after slashing .444/.600/.772 (8-for-18) with two doubles, a home run, eight RBI and five walks across five games to help lead Arkansas to a double midweek series sweep against Northern Colorado as well as an SEC road weekend series win at South Carolina.

Semifinalists were selected based on both their offensive and defensive production this season. For more information on the Brooks Wallace Award, visit the College Baseball Foundation website at www.collegebaseballhall.org.
