Lady Razorback tennis surges to No. 24 in ITA Rankings

FAYETTEVILLE – After showing how close they are to some of the top teams in the nation, the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis team leaped 15 spots in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings to No. 24 in the nation on Tuesday.

“We definitely felt good about our performances,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty.

Heading into the ITA National Team Indoor over the weekend, Arkansas was ranked No. 39 before dropping three 4-3 decisions to 2nd-ranked UCLA, 8th-ranked Southern California and 12th ranked Fresno State at the time.

The Lady’Backs have two tough matches this weekend against No. 17 William & Mary, and No. 44 North Carolina State.

“It’s still early, but this was a good jump and spark for our team,” Hegarty said. “Playing such tough opponents will definitely help us gear up for hard-hitting conference match ups.”

Arkansas was ranked 53rd in the ITA preseason poll.
