Late Turnovers Hurt Razorbacks On The Road

Box Score
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Jessica Jackson scored 18 points but a big fourth quarter run was too much for the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team to overcome against Tennessee in Knoxville on Sunday.

The Razorbacks (13-14, 2-12 SEC) fell 59-46 to the Lady Vols (17-10, 8-6 SEC) in a game that was close most of the way. Sophomore Malica Monk also finished in double figures for the 12th time this year with 11 points.

The teams could not have played more evenly in the first 10 minutes ending the period tied at 11-all. Freshman Aaliyah Wilson scored four quick points and handled the ball well in her five minutes on the court. The Razorbacks had 16 rebounds in the first frame.

Arkansas opened the second quarter with a quick 4-0 run with baskets from Jackson and Wilson forcing a Tennessee timeout with just under two minutes gone in the period.

The Razorbacks pulled out to a five-point lead but Tennessee’s offense came alive after an injury timeout. The Lady Vols put together a 9-0 run to retake the lead but Jackson was able to hit a 3-pointer from the left side slowing the attack.

Freshman Jailyn Mason added a jumper sending the Razorbacks into the locker room with a 23-22 lead after 20 minutes of play.

It was a back-and-fourth third quarter ending with a one-point Tennessee lead. Tennessee’s offense opened the fourth frame on a 6-0 run and the Lady Vols stretched the lead to as many as eight twice in the first three minutes.

The Razorbacks cut into the lead but consecutive turnovers that led to points got the crowd into the game and sparked the offense as Tennessee pulled away.
