Lawrence Leads Arkansas with 24 Points in Win Over SFA

FAYETTEVILLE – Junior forward Jenna Lawrence powered Arkansas (11-3) past Stephen F. Austin (7-4), 82-73, with 24 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Razorbacks dominated on the boards, 63-44, the most rebounds by an Arkansas team since 2018.

First Quarter – 21-20

  • Ashlynn Chlarson won the tip for Arkansas but both teams missed their first two shots from the field.
  • SFA scored the first points of the game at the 8:15 mark.
  • Bonnie Deas scored Arkansas’ first point of the game, a free throw at the 5:56 mark.
  • The Ladyjacks led 14-8 at the media timeout.
  • Taleyah Jones, making her first start since the SMU game on Dec. 4, had seven of the Hogs’ eight points.
  • Freshman Harmonie Ware scored out of the timeout to make it 14-10 SFA.
  • Arkansas took its first lead with 24 seconds left in the first, a drive by Jenna Lawrence to make it 19-18. Maria Rodriguez got a steal on the inbounds pass to give the Hogs a 3-point lead.
  • Deas grabbed six rebounds despite sitting for the last four minutes.

Second Quarter – 42-26

  • The Hogs went on a 6-0 run to take a 31-23 lead and SFA called a timeout with 5:24 left in the half.
  • Arkansas extended its run out of the timeout with a jumper from Ware and led by double digits for the first time.
  • Jenna Lawrence extended the run to 13-0 with a three, followed by another from Wyvette Mayberry to make it 42-23
  • Deas had 10 rebounds in the first half.
  • The Hogs held SFA to six points in the second quarter, who was just 11.1% (2-18) from the field.

Third Quarter – 59-48

  • Arkansas opened the half with back-to-back buckets from Chlarson and Deas.
  • Deas picked up a pair of fouls in the opening minute and SFA went on an 11-0 run to cut the Hogs’ lead to nine.
  • SFA cut the Razorbacks’ lead to eight and was on a 14-2 run into the third quarter media timeout.
  • The Ladyjacks outscored Arkansas, 22-17, in the third quarter on 38.1% shooting from the field.

Fourth Quarter – 82-73

  • Lawrence surpassed 20 points for the second time this season.
  • SFA battled and finished the game six for its last six from the field. The Ladyjacks outscored Arkansas, 19-13, in the final five minutes to cut the Hogs’ lead single digits.
  • Both teams had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth quarter

Game Notes

  • Lawrence led all scorers and picked up her fourth career double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Deas picked up her eighth double-digit rebounding game with 13. Ten of those came in the first half.
  • Arkansas’ 63 rebounds were the most in a game since 2018 and the second most by an SEC team in a game this season.
  • The Hogs ranked fourth nationally in total rebounds (589) prior to today’s game.
