Lewis Named USA Captain for 2024 Solheim Cup

FAYETTEVILLE – Before the 2023 Solheim Cup has taken place, Arkansas women’s golf alumna and two-time major champion Stacy Lewis (2005-08) has been tabbed the Team USA Captain for the Solheim Cup in 2024 (Sept. 10-15). Lewis is set to also captain the 2023 Solheim Cup in Spain this September 22-24.

Lewis is already set to be the youngest captain in U.S. history at 38 coming into the matches in Spain. She has played in four different Solheim Cups (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017) and served as an assistant captain in 2019 and 2021. In her second year being the captain for Team USA, Lewis will be leading the team at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia in 2024.

Playing on the LPGA tour for over 15 years, Lewis is now one of five golfers who have had the opportunity to captain the U.S. Team at least twice. World Golf Hall of Fame members Juli Inkster (2015, 2017 and 2019), Judy Rankin (1996 and 1998), Patty Sheehan (2002 and 2003) and Kathy Whitworth (1990 and 1992) are the other four.

The Solheim Cup is a biennial event, but this Cup will take place in back-to-back years due to the alternation of scheduling with COVID-19. The tournament features the world’s best women golfers with the three-day competition putting Team U.S. and Europe head-to-head.
