LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Arkansas senior Stacy Lewis opened her senior season with a first-round 69 leading the Lady Razorbacks to third place at the Wildcat Fall Invitational in Lexington, Ky., Saturday.

Lewis’ three-under puts The Woodlands, Texas, native in second place after Alabama’s Courtney Harter carded a five-under 67 in the opening round.

Lewis was four-under with birdies on holes 1,3, 7 and 8 to open play. She added a pair of birdies and a bogey on the back nine finishing with 69.

Arkansas finds themselves in third place overall with a 298. Alabama leads the field after one round with a four-over 292. Florida in second at 295, followed by Arkansas (298), Central Florida (300), South Florida (301) and host Kentucky (301) rounding out the top five.

“It was a pretty satisfying start for the most part,” said first-year head coach Shauna Estes. “We had to scrap the tournament rust off a little bit and get back in the swing of things. We made a couple of little mistakes coming in but I think this is a team that, the more they play, the better they will get.”

Sophomore Kristin Ingram carded a 75 for Arkansas and is tied for 19th. Sophomore Alex Schulte counted toward the team score with a 76 and is tied for 22nd. Freshman Kelli Shean contributed with a first round 78 and is tied for 37th in her first-ever collegiate round and junior Lucy Nunn is tied for 43 with a 79. Sophomore Tanica van As also traveled with the team competing as an individual. Van As shot 77 and is tied for 28th overall.

“Stacy is just Stacy – what can you say?” said Estes. “She is our rock and she performs like you’d expect a leader to perform. Kelli played well. I expect that from her. I don’t feel like she’s a freshman golf-wise. She’ll be a big part of our lineup in the future.”

Play continues with two more rounds Sunday and Monday at the Big Blue Course. For more information about Lady Razorback golf, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
