Logan Forsythe and Team USA Face Cuba in the Gold Medal Game of the Pan Am Games

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Logan Forsythe has transitioned smoothly from third base to left field this summer for Team USA as they trek across the country and the globe playing some of the best international competition in the world.

Forsythe, a Memphis native and a junior at the University of Arkansas, leads the USA National Baseball Team into the Gold Medal Game at the Pan Am Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, on Friday against Cuba.

He is hitting a team-best .377 (23 for 61) with six doubles, a home run and 12 RBI as Team USA has posted a 15-5 record throughout the summer. Forsythe also leads the team with a .506 on-base percentage, six stole bases and 15 walks.

Forsythe has been even better since arriving in Brazil for the Pan Am Games with an astonishing .769 (10 for 13) batting average, one double, four RBI, two stolen bases and a .824 on-base mark. Team USA is 4-0 in the Pan Am Games with wins over the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Brazil and Mexico.

Following the Gold Medal Game against Cuba on Friday, Team USA returns to the United States for a five-game series with China that begins on July 22 in Mobile, Ala., for two games and continues on July 25 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. The series then shifts to Rome, Ga., on July 26 for the fourth game before concluding on July 27 in Fort Mill, S.C.

Team USA then returns to North Carolina for three games with The Netherlands on July 28-29 and then a single contest with Russia on July 30. The summer finishes in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, at the 2007 World Port Tournament.

This is the second straight season that an Arkansas baseball player has excelled for Team USA. LHP Nick Schmidt posted a 3-1 record and a 1.31 ERA in the starting rotation for Team USA last summer.
