Makarova Named Women’s Tennis Assistant Coach
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Women’s tennis head coach Tucker Clary has named former Texas A&M volunteer assistant and ITA All-American, Tatiana Makarova, as his new assistant coach.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the addition of Tatiana to the program as our Assistant Coach,” Clary said. “Tatiana was one of the top competitors in our conference in her time as a student-athlete, and her experience joining the coaching ranks at her alma mater will bring a great understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level. Her passion for college tennis was evident in our conversations, and I can’t wait to see the impact she has with our group. Hog Nation let’s welcome Tatiana and her family in with open arms, she will be a big key for what we hope will be an incredible future here at Arkansas.”
Makarova spent last year with the women’s tennis program at Texas A&M as a volunteer assistant coach, helping lead the Aggies to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and a 30-3 record overall. The Aggies won their second straight SEC regular season title behind a perfect 13-0 record in conference play.
“I’m super excited to join the Razorback family and get to work with such a dedicated, hardworking group of girls,” Makarova said. “Great things are ahead of us and I’m so grateful to be a part of the journey to reach our goals!”
Makarova comes to Arkansas after a very successful five-year career as a player at Texas A&M. In 2021, she was an ITA All-American in both singles and doubles, an All-SEC First Team selection, a member of the SEC All-Tournament Team, and achieved her career-high singles ranking at No. 10. In 2022, Makarova was again named an ITA All-American in doubles, an All-SEC First Team selection, a member of the SEC All-Tournament Team, and was the SEC Tournament MVP in addition to reaching her career-high doubles ranking at No. 2. She advanced to the National Quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles draw alongside Jayci Goldsmith in 2021 and 2022. Makarova ranks second in career doubles wins and third in career singles wins at Texas A&M.
