Marshall, Taylor PR in 800m, Vines wins indoor debut
FAYETTEVILLE – The first day of the talent-filled Razorback Invitational produced a pair of victories for Rivaldo Marshall and Scottie Vines at Randal Tyson Track Center.
Marshall won the final section of the 800m in 1:46.80 as he bettered his previous best of 1:46.86 and moved to the No. 3 performer on the Jamaican all-time indoor list and No. 4 on the UA all-time list.
Teammate Tyrice Taylor, who led the field entering the homestretch, finished in second and third overall with a 1:46.93 career best, which is No. 4 Jamaican performer and No. 5 on the UA all-time list. Taylor’s previous indoor best was 1:50.62 with a 1:48.49 on an oversized track. His outdoor best is 1:46.94.
Splits for the pair of Razorbacks included 26.08, 26.52 [52.60], 27.40 [1:20.00], and 26.80 for Marshall along with 25.85, 26.59 [52.44], 27.33 [1:19.77], and 27.16 for Taylor.
Vines first venture high jumping indoors produced a winning height of 7-3 (2.21) as he just missed equaling the No. 9 position on the UA all-time list of 7-3.25 (2.22) that is shared by three jumpers.
The series for Vines included two attempts at 6-10.75 (2.10), first attempts at 7-0.5 (2.15) and 7-1.75 (2.18), and two attempts to clear 7-3. Vines attempted 7-4.5 (2.25) on his next bar, which would have been equal No. 6 on the UA all-time list with Matt Hemingway.
Teammate Joshua Blakely set a career best of 7-1.75 (2.18) to place second in the competition as he bettered his previous indoor best of 6-8.75 (2.05) and his outdoor best of 7-0.25 (2.14).
The first day of the heptathlon has Jack Turner in the lead with 3,311 points while teammates Gabriel Emmanuel and Jaxon Bair are in second and third with 3,274 and 3,175 points.
Emmanuel finished the day with a leading height of 6-10.75 (2.10) that set a career best in the high jump. All three set PRs in the shot put with Emmanuel leading the trio with a 49-6.5 (15.10) toss followed by Bair at 45-5.25 (13.86) and Turner with a 44-10.75 (13.68).
Turner led the field in the long jump with a leap of 24-7.25 (7.50) while Bair started off the heptathlon with a 6.96 victory in the 60m followed by a pair of 7.00 times by Emmanuel and Turner.
A career best of 20.75 placed Jordan Anthony as runner-up in the 200m behind a 20.45 for Florida’s Wayne McCoy and just ahead of a 20.76 for Tennessee’s T’Mars McCallum. Anthony just missed making the UA all-time top 10 with 20.71 the cutoff.
Razorbacks following Anthony included Tevijon Williams in fourth at 20.90 along with Steven McElroy (21.09) and Jaden Smith (21.10).
Henry Kiner placed second in the long jump with a mark of 25-2.5 (7.68) behind the winning effort of 25-7.25 (7.80) by Florida’s Malcolm Clemons. Uroy Ryan reached a distance of 25-0 (7.62) for fifth place with Sebastian Berntsen seventh with a 24-2.25 (7.37).
