Mason Honored By SEC
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas guard Jailyn Mason earned selection to the 2017 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team the league office announced today.
Mason, a native of Mason, Ohio, has been a consistent leader for the Razorbacks in her first season. She earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice this year and enters the SEC Tournament ranked 14th in the league with 3.1 assists per game – the second best number by a freshman this season.
Mason also ranks sixth with a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio and averaged 30.2 minutes per game in her first year of college ball. Listed as a guard, Mason was called upon to move to the point position for three games this year. In that time, she scored 39 points, had 24 assists, 15 rebounds and had just two turnovers in 109 minutes of play.
Mason posted back-to-back double-doubles this year with 11 assists and 10 points against Houston Baptist and 10 assists and 10 points in the SEC opener at Ole Miss.
Mason’s selection makes her the 14th Razorback selected to the conference’s all-freshman team in program history.
The Razorbacks return to the court on Wednesday in the first round of the 2017 SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. Arkansas opens play against Florida at approximately 12:30 p.m.
