McFadden and Jones Break NCAA Record for Combined Rushing Yards

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ Darren McFadden and Felix Jones now can add an NCAA record to their resumes. The NCAA confirmed on Monday that the Arkansas duo owns the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) record for most combined rushing yards by teammates in a single game after combining for 487 rushing yards against No. 23 South Carolina last Saturday night.

McFadden and Jones broke the previous NCAA record of Tony Sands (396) and Chip Hilleary (80) of the University of Kansas who rushed for 476 yards combined against the University of Missouri on Nov. 23, 1991.

McFadden tied an SEC record with 321 yards on 34 carries, matching Vanderbilt’s Frank Mordica who rushed for the same total in 1978 against Air Force. Jones turned in a career-high 166 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries.

The Razorback tandem also became just the second set of backs (Minnesota’s Marion Barber and Laurence Maroney) in NCAA history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. McFadden has 1,314 rushing yards this season on 222 attempts. Jones boasts 1,029 yards on 111 rushing attempts.
