Men’s Tennis caps off LSU Tournament with Three Sunday Wins

BATON ROUGE, La. – Razorback Men’s Tennis capped off their three-day tournament at LSU with another doubles victory and a pair in singles action on Sunday afternoon. Arkansas took 15 total matches throughout the weekend. All three wins on Sunday came against SEC-foes from Mississippi State.

In doubles, Josh Bortnick teamed with Foster Rogers to defeat the pairing of Malesevic/Strickland, 8-6. Nico Rousset, who reached the semifinals of the Tiger Draw, downed Alberto Colas Sanchez. After Rousset easily took the first set, 6-1, his Bulldog opponent was forced to retire. Freshman Avery Zavala picked up his first win as a Razorback in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3, breezing past Stedman Strickland.

“It was really good for us to play in this tournament. Playing Top 25 SEC teams and having some success is good. We can see what the level is to be in the Top 25,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “We can be that level this year. Thanks to the SEC and LSU for the hard work to get the players the opportunity to compete.”

The squad will be back on the courts from Oct. 16-18 for competition at the Commodore Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Other competing teams include the Commodores, Auburn and Kentucky.
