Men’s Tennis drops heartbreaker to #11 Vanderbilt

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 41 Arkansas men’s tennis took an early lead against No. 11 Vanderbilt on Friday night at the Billingsley Tennis Center before the Commodores rallied for a 4-3 win.

The Razorbacks (11-6, 0-4) secured the doubles point in short order for a 1-0 lead. On court three, Dmitry Kopilevich and Brendan Boland won their match 6-2 over Vanderbilt’s Jack Satterfield and Hugo Coquelin. Ben Weintraub and Eric Padgham tallied the first point of the night with a 6-4 victory on court one vs. No. 49 Hoyoung Roh and Nathan Cox. No. 28 Jakub Vrba and Connor Smillie led 5-2 on court two against Danil Panarin and Pablo Martinez Gomez.

The matched evolved into a back-and-forth affair with the teams trading wins across all six courts. Brendan Boland gave the Hogs a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Hugo Coquelin on court six. The Commodores (12-3, 4-1) responded with a win on court five from Jack Satterfield over Dmitry Kopilevich, 6-2, 6-3. The Dores then pulled even with Danil Panarin’s 6-3, 6-3 victory over Gabriel Elicha Navas on court three.

No. 21 Jakub Vrba won a thriller over Pablo Martinez Gomez, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) on court one to push the home team within a point of their first SEC win of the season. Vandy, however, grabbed court four with Nathan Cox taking down Ben Weintraub in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. No. 90 Hoyoung Roh clinched the match with a three-set victory over Lukas Palovic, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Arkansas returns to action on Sunday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center when No. 37 Kentucky visits for a noon match.
