Men’s Tennis Open Home Season With Doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s team (2-0) return home to Billingsley Tennis Center on Friday, facing Wichita State (2-2) at 12 p.m. and Lamar (2-1) at 4 p.m.

The Razorbacks opened the spring season with two wins over San Diego State and UC San Diego on the road. Newcomers Gerard Planelles Ripoll and Stefanos Savva got their first wins as Razorbacks, with Planelles Ripoll going 3-0 on the day. Junior Melvin Manuel got off to a hot start this spring as well, clinching the Razorback wins in both matches.

The Wichita State Shockers and the Razorbacks are no strangers, having faced each other individually in the ITA Regional Championships this fall. The Shockers are led by Kristof Minarik and Alex Richards who went 10-5 as a doubles duo last spring and faced Arkansas’ Adrien Burdet and Alan Sau Franco in the ITA Regional quarterfinals. Wichita State is 2-2 on the season right now with wins against Grand Canyon and Bryant. They are coming off of a close 1-4 loss to Arizona State.

The Lamar Redbirds, led by former Razorback Scott Shankles, are the defending Western Athletic Conference champions come to Arkansas after a 0-7 loss to No. 11 Baylor. Max Amling and Filippo Salsini return as the top doubles team from last spring, posting a 14-3 record at the No. 2 position for the Redbirds. Against the Bears, Amling and Salsini put up a tough effort against their No. 59 ranked opponent, falling 2-6.
