Men’s Tennis tames #14 Auburn
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Back home at the Billingsley Tennis Center for the first time in two weeks, the No. 39 Arkansas men’s tennis team felt at home in a 6-1 upset win over No. 14 Auburn on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (14-5) struck first in doubles with No. 63 Billy Blaydes and Freddy Blaydes taking down No. 44 Ben Weintraub and Eric Padgham, 6-1. The Razorbacks (15-8) bounced back to claim the doubles point behind wins from No. 64 Jakub Vrba and Connor Smillie over Nicholas Heng and Joey Phillips, 6-3, on court two and Dmitry Kopilevich and Brendan Boland over Jake Kennedy and Hamza Nasridinov, 6-1, on court three.
The Hogs kept rolling in singles play with Gabriel Elicha Navas making it 2-0 Arkansas in a 6-4, 6-4 victory vs. Freddy Blaydes. Lukas Palovic secured the third point in straight sets over No. 76 Billy Blaydes, 6-4, 7-5. Arsene Pougault clinched the match on court five by beating Alan Bojarski, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. On court three, Ben Weintraub rallied after dropping the first set to beat Nicholas Heng, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Auburn scored their lone point of the match on court six when Manel Lazano beat Brendan Boland, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. No. 18 Jakub Vrba supplied the cherry on top of Sunday’s win with a hard-fought, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (6-8), 10-6, victory.
Arkansas returns to the road this weekend in Southeastern Conference play with a Texas road trip to No. 9 Texas A&M on Friday and No. 3 Texas on Sunday. The Hogs will wrap up the Texas swing with a neutral site match vs. Incarnate Word on Sunday afternoon.
