No. 52 Men's Tennis Travels to Tulsa for Midweek Doubleheader
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 52 Arkansas men’s tennis team (7-3) travels to Tulsa, Okla., for a midweek doubleheader against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (0-3) and the No. 56 Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-4) on Wednesday, February 21.
Last weekend, the Razorbacks split their doubleheader versus Washington and Seattle. In the first match against Washington, the Hogs claimed the doubles point with wins from No. 45 Jared Horwood/Melvin Manuel and Connor Smillie/Jake Sweeney. Horwood and Manuel earned their first ranked victory of the season and the first top-10 doubles win by an Arkansas pairing since 2018, while Smillie and Sweeney improved to 5-0 together this year on court three.
The Hogs took the doubles point again versus Seattle as Smillie/Gerard Planelles Ripoll and Horwood/Benedikt Emesz secured victories to take the early 1-0 advantage. Horwood and Sweeney obtained their first singles wins of the spring while Smillie grabbed his second with a victory on court four to give Arkansas the 4-0 win.
The Golden Eagles have started the season 0-3 and are coming off a loss to Oklahoma State on February 3. Senior Gustavo Pinho and sophomore Ricardo Filho head the ORU singles lineup, playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. The duo has also competed together on court one in doubles play all year.
No. 56 Tulsa is off to a 3-4 start this spring and most recently dropped its match against Baylor. The Golden Hurricane have picked up victories over Oral Roberts, Illinois State, and Princeton this season. Seniors Pierce Rollins and Callum Gale lead Tulsa with four singles wins while primarily playing on courts one, three, and four. At the No. 2 position, senior Thiago Pernas holds a 3-3 record while playing alongside Rollins on court one in doubles. The tandems of Pernas/Rollins and Gale/Alex Okonkwo have each earned three doubles victories this year.
No live stats will be available for either match and live video will not be available for the ORU match. The Tulsa match will be streamed on Cracked Racquets on ESPN+.
