
Moore Leads Heptathlon, DMR Scores on Day One at NCAAs
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas opened day one of the NCAA Indoor Championships with a First-Team All-American performance on by the Razorback DMR as well as Gabe Moore leading the way in the heptathlon after day one at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Arkansas waited patiently all day for the men’s DMR to hit the track, but it was worth the wait as the Razorbacks turned in a First-Team All-American performance finishing fifth-overall in the event.
Gilbert Boit (2:58.04), Hunter Woodhall (46.59), Kieran Taylor (1:51.37), and Cameron Griffith (3:57.98) combined to run 9:33.97, with Woodhall’s carry finishing as the fastest of any of the 400-meter legs in the competition.
Gabe Moore pieced together a spectacular day one in the men’s heptathlon where the senior from Freeport, Fla. currently leads the competition with his day one total of 3,423-pts. Moore opened the competition with a lifetime-best 6.82 (947-pts) that fell less than a tenth of a second (.10) from landing on the Arkansas All-Time top-10 list where the No. 10 marks currently sits at 6.74. Moore moved on to the long jump where he posted a mark of 7.21m (23-8) scoring 864-pts assuming the lead after the event. The final two events of the day saw Moore record a best of 14.86m (48-9) in the long jump and 2.03m (6-8) in the high jump.
Derek Jacobus wrapped up day one in 11th-place with a day one total of 3,163-pts. after four events. A lifetime-best of 7.01 got the ball rolling for Jacobus who then went on to post marks of 7.21m (23-8) in the long jump, 13.48m (44-2.75) in the shot put, and 1.91m (6-3.25) in the high jump with the shot put mark being a lifetime-best.
The Razorbacks will return to the track tomorrow afternoon starting at 11:45 a.m. looking to capitalize on the heptathlon duo finishing up as well as Laquan Nairn in the triple jump and the 4×400-meter relay.
