Morris Grabs Third-Straight USATF Championship

DES MOINES, Iowa – Former Razorback Sandi Morris took home the 2019 USATF Pole Vault Championship Sunday afternoon at Drake Stadium. The USATF Championship was the fifth of Morris’ career and the third-straight.

In a steady downpour of rain and a slight crosswind, Morris cleared a season-best 4.85m (15-11) on her 11th vault of the competition to take the crown.

“I always go into competitions focusing on myself,” said Morris. With the weather and clouds looming you have to take control of the situation.”

With the USATF Championship, Morris qualifies for the IAAF World Championships slated for Sept. 28 – Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar.

Along with Morris in the competition were the reigning NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Champions Lexi Jacobus and Tori Hoggard, as well as consummate All-American Desiree Freier. The trio bowed out of the competition after three good looks at 4.40m (14-5.25).
