Nick Busienei, Ben Shearer finish 3rd & 4th in Stanford 5,000m
STANFORD – Racing in the primary section of the 5,000m at the Stanford Invitational on Friday evening, Razorbacks Nick Busienei and Ben Shearer set career best times in moving to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, on the UA all-time list.
Busienei, an Arkansas freshman, raced up front with the leaders throughout, while senior Shearer moved up from the mid-pack in the latter stages of the race. Busienei produced a time of 13:21.80 as Shearer clocked 13:21.99. On the final lap of the race, Busienei split 57.91 while Shearer followed in 58.80.
The times for Busienei and Shearer rank third and fourth fastest among collegians in the early stages of the outdoor season as the Stanford Invitational generated the 16 fastest times so far. The Arkansas pair also have the fastest 5,000m times in the SEC.
Oregon’s Simeon Birnbaum won the race in 13:19.73 while Geoffrey Kirwa of Louisville finished second in 13:21.49. Placing fifth behind the pair of Razorbacks was Colin Sahlman (13:23.12) of Northern Arizona, the 2026 NCAA Indoor 3,000m champion, and Oklahoma State’s Brian Musau (13:23.86), the 2025 NCAA Outdoor 5,000m champion.
Owan Logorodi posted a time of 3:44.90 in the 1,500m, placing sixth in the second section. Jack Williams set a career best of 8:48.29 in the 3,000m steeplechase to finish eighth in the second section as he improved his previous best of 8:49.10.
