No. 1 Razorbacks ready for SEC Indoor challenge

COLLEGE STATION – No. 1 Arkansas heads into another battle for a conference title this weekend with Texas A&M serving as host of the SEC Indoor Championships for a second consecutive year.

SEC schools following No. 1 Arkansas in the national rankings this week include No. 3 Tennessee, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 9 Georgia, No. 10 Florida, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 14 South Carolina, No. 17 Texas, No. 20 Auburn, No. 21 LSU, and No. 25 Alabama.

In conference rankings, which measures a team’s depth, the SEC order includes Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Auburn among the top 10.

The Razorbacks have claimed a league record 27 SEC Indoor team titles and finished runner-up on seven occasions. Only once have the Hogs been runner-up in consecutive years (2018-19). Arkansas recently produced a run of five consecutive titles from 2020 to 2024 prior to a runner-up finish in 2025.

“As usual we’re fighting to win a SEC title, that’s something that Arkansas does year in and year out,” noted Arkansas men’s head coach Doug Case. “We’re proud of that. We’re going to go in there, do what we can do, and try to win another championship for Arkansas.

“Every year we’re in it to win it. The team knows that and they know that we have those expectations. In listening to some of them prior to practice they were saying they’ve never been on a team with a chance to win something, this is really encouraging. It was really a high positive note for the newcomers here in our team and program.”

Last year’s team title came down to 5.5 points between the host Aggies (107.5) and the Razorbacks (102). Tying for third place with 56.5 points each were Oklahoma and Ole Miss.

Returning medalist from a year ago for Arkansas include Rivaldo Marshall with bronze in the 800m while the Razorbacks were silver medalists in both relays.

“The SEC Championship is a fight and you have to go in with the right attitude and mentality,” stated Case. “Even a prelim is very difficult just to make those finals, if you don’t make the finals then you can’t score. You can’t go in there taking anything lightly. The team understands that.”

Quality and depth in various events have Arkansas possessing a well rounded squad. Events in particular include the 60m, 200m, and 60m hurdles. In the 800m, the Razorback combo of Marshall and Tyrice Taylor are 1-2 in the SEC while in the 3,000m the trio of Ernest Cheruiyot, Brian Masai, and Nick Busienei rank 1-2-6.
