No. 1 Razorbacks ready to defend SEC Indoor title once again
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 1 Arkansas seeks a six consecutive SEC Indoor team title this weekend as Texas A&M plays host to the 2025 SEC Championships this Thursday through Saturday at Fasken Indoor Track.
The Razorbacks have claimed a conference record 27 SEC Indoor titles since joining the conference in the 1991-92 season. Arkansas previously won six consecutive indoor SEC team titles from 2005 to 2010. A string of seven consecutive titles were achieved from 1997-2003.
Last year the Razorbacks totaled 163 points in winning the conference meet over Florida (106) and Texas A&M (71).
“We’re here to try to win the meet, that’s the goal,” said Arkansas men’s head coach Chris Bucknam. “We’re looking forward to getting going tomorrow and getting after this thing.
“We have a lot of new guys and we have some vets. Everybody is forward looking. It doesn’t matter what we did last year at this time. What matters now is being focused, dialed in, and ready to go. Because it’s the best conference in the country and you’ll get swept away if you’re not dialed in and ready to go.”

In updated national rankings this week, Arkansas remains in the No. 1 position. Seven other SEC schools among the top 25 include No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 7 Auburn, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 12 Florida, No.15 Mississippi State, No. 17 Ole Miss, and No. 23 Missouri.
SEC rankings, which account for team depth, has the Razorbacks in the top position over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and Georgia.
This will be the first away meet of the season for Arkansas, who hosted four home meets this indoor season.
“I’ll be watching closely how we react, because this is new even for me going into my 17th year here,” noted Bucknam. “This is the first time our first away meet has been a championship meet.
“We’re fortunate that we have great facilities back home. There’s a freshness to the fact that we’re someplace different and that adds a little bit of vibe to it. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.”
Arkansas enters the meet with four conference leaders in Reuben Reina (mile), Yaseen Abdalla (3,000m & 5,000m), and Scottie Vines (high jump) while 20 Razorbacks hold 30 top eight positions, including both relays, in their respective events in the SEC this season.
Returning Razorback medalists from a year ago include Ben Shearer (bronze, Mile), while Arkansas won the 4 x 400m relay and the distance medley relay finished third in 2024. Fourth-place finishers included Jordan Anthony (60m) and Patrick Kiprop (3,000m & 5,000m).
