No. 10 Arkansas Comes From Behind, Takes Down No. 17 Vanderbilt 2-1
FAYETTEVILLE – No. 10 Arkansas (4-2-2, 2-0-0 SEC) picked up its first come-from-behind victory this season after scoring two unanswered goals late against No. 17 Vanderbilt (6-2-1, 0-1-1 SEC) for a 2-1 victory in the SEC home opener on Thursday night at Razorback Field.
The Hogs were down 1-0 with under 12 minutes to play, but a free kick strike from midfielder Zoe Susi leveled the match in the 79th minute. Seven minutes later, senior forward Taylor Berman put the Razorbacks ahead, 2-1, with a clean finish on freshman Vailana Tu’ua’s cross.
Vanderbilt’s defense gave Arkansas fits for much of the match and held the Hogs to just five shots in each half. The Commodores also limited dangerous set-piece opportunities and allowed just two corner kicks.
Until Susi’s successful kick from between the 18-yard box and the sideline, the Razorbacks’ best chance came in the seventh minute when junior Kennedy Ball’s shot was saved by Vandy goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko.
Vanderbilt opened the scoring in the 39th minute on Sydney Watts’ fifth goal of the season.
