Tu'ua Leads No. 10 Arkansas to 1-0 Win at Texas A&M
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – An 11th-minute goal from freshman Vailana Tu’ua was all No. 10 Arkansas soccer (5-2-2, 3-0-0 SEC) needed to shut out Texas A&M (3-4-3, 0-3-0 SEC), 1-0, on Sunday night.
Tu’ua, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, deflected a shot at the top of the 18-yard box from midfielder Kennedy Ball into open space in the six-yard box. Tu’ua buried an unsavable shot with her left foot for her third goal of SEC play.
Arkansas’ defense came up big in the remaining 79 minutes, with defenders Dejionee Anderson and Avery Wren blowing up several A&M counterattacks.
The Aggies’ best chance came in the 88th minute, but goalkeeper Evie Vitali, making her first start in SEC play, hit a powerful shot from forward Kaylee Noble over the crossbar.
Texas A&M outshot Arkansas, 10-4, but the shot from Noble was the only one on frame.
