No. 2 Arkansas Downs No. 23 South Carolina in Front of Record Crowd
FAYETTEVILLE – No. 2 Arkansas soccer (9-0-1, 4-0-0 SEC) extended its win streak to eight matches after a 2-0 victory over No. 23 South Carolina. For the first time in its history, Razorback Field hosted a capacity crowd of 4,000 fans.
The Hogs handed Carolina (5-1-4, 2-1-0 SEC), who did not play on Thursday due to Hurricane Helene, their first loss of the season.
More history was made after forward Ava Tankersley’s banger game-winning goal in the 20th minute pushed her over the 100-point mark, just the fourth Razorback with triple-digit points in program history. Tankersley also picked up an assist to bring her total to 101 career points.
Tankersley is now tied with forward Kate Doyle for a team-leading eight goals. The duo also leads the SEC in scoring.
Nine minutes later, defender Kiley Dulaney added some insurance after blasting in a corner kick from Tankersley. Dulaney is up to three goals on the season, passing her total of two from last season.
The Hogs dominated the stat sheet, matching the Gamecock’s six shots with 17 of their own, and nine on goal. Arkansas also created nine corner kicks compared to just two from South Carolina.
In the defensive third, freshman goalkeeper Keegan Smith and the Hogs’ back line suffocated any hope of an opposing score from whistle to whistle as the Razorbacks did not concede a shot on goal. Smith and the defense picked up their sixth shutout of the season.
The Razorbacks sit alone atop the SEC standings with 12 points.
