No. 2 Arkansas Shuts Out Vanderbilt for First Road Win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The second-ranked Razorbacks (8-0-1, 3-0-0 SEC) extended their win streak to seven matches after shutting out Vanderbilt (5-2-3, 0-2-1 SEC), 2-0, at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in a rainy Nashville, Tenn.

A trio of freshmen led Arkansas to its first road win of the season. Newcomers Anaiyah Robinson and Jailyn Brownlee netted the goals and goalkeeper Keegan Smith recorded a career-high seven saves to keep the Commodores off the board.

Brownlee gave the Hogs the lead in the 35th minute after a ball in from forward Ava Tankersley was punched out by Vandy keeper Kate Devine. Brownlee poked it across the six-yard box and in for her second header goal in as many matches.

Smith made a major impact 20 minutes in with a diving save to keep the match level at 0-0.

Arkansas finished the first 45 with a 1-0 lead despite being outshot by Vanderbilt, 7-6.

Robinson added her seventh goal of the season to double the Hogs’ lead off a corner kick in the 64th minute. The forward blasted a right-footed shot to clean up defender Ella Riley’s header in the six-yard box. Robinson leads all SEC freshmen and ranks sixth with 15 points (7g, 1a).

Both teams finished the match with 14 shots.

No. 2 Arkansas will host No. 23 South Carolina (5-0-4, 2-0-0 SEC) on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the match will be televised on ESPNU. The Gamecocks will be rested and ready after their match on Thursday against No. 9 Mississippi State was postponed due to weather.
