No. 3 Razorbacks total second best 11 entries into NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 3 Arkansas will have 11 entries into the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships, second best to the leading total of 15 by No. 1 Texas while Florida and Oregon have 10 entries apiece. The national championship meet will be held March 10-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Razorbacks will contest six events at the NCAA Indoor. Competing in a leading nine events are Texas, Florida, and Oregon.

Arkansas qualified six athletes into one event, the 400m. Leading the sprint group is Amber Anning, who is seeded No. 3 with her 50.68 behind the American record of 50.15 set by Florida’s Talitha Diggs at the SEC meet.

Overall, the Razorbacks are seeded 3-4-6-11-12-15 with the crew of Rosey Effiong, Britton Wilson, Joanne Reid, Nickisha Pryce, and Paris Peoples. Wilson finished sixth in the final a year ago.

With that much depth in the 400m, Arkansas sports a world-leading time of 3:26.40 in the 4 x 400m relay over a 3:26.73 by Texas.

Having qualified in both relays, Arkansas is the defending champion in each after becoming the first school to win both the 4 x 400 and distance medley relays during the 2022 NCAA Indoor.

This marks the fourth consecutive year for Arkansas to qualify both relays. Joining the Razorbacks this season in contesting both relays are Kentucky, Stanford, and UCLA.

In the pole vault, Razorbacks have scored in the NCAA Indoor meet 17 of the past 20 times it was contested. This is the 23rd consecutive year for Arkansas to have at least an individual qualify in the pole vault.

Amanda Fassold, a silver medalist at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor, is the No. 2 seed in the pole vault after her indoor best of 14-10.75 (4.54) served as the collegiate leader for most of February. South Dakota’s Marleen Mulla, of Estonia, took over the collegiate lead with a 14-11 (4.55) clearance this past weekend.

Ackera Nugent, with a 7.81 in the 60m hurdles, ranks second to collegiate record holder Masai Russell, who ran 7.75 this season. No other collegian has run sub eight seconds so far in 2023.

Lauren Gregory, a bronze medalist in the 3,000m at the 2022 NCAA Indoor, is entered in the mile where she is one of only two seniors in the field of 16.
