
No. 33 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 6 Texas A&M
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 33 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 6 Texas A&M on Friday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center. With the loss, the Razorbacks fall to 14-8 overall and 7-5 in Southeastern Conference play.
In doubles, the Aggies quickly claimed all three courts to take a 1-0 lead headed into singles play. On court one, No. 43 Tatum Rice and Morgan Cross fell 6-2 to the No. 2 ranked doubles duo of Tatiana Makarova and Jayvi Goldsmith to put the Aggies within one. Courts two and three finished at the same time, with the Aggies taking both to claim the lead.
Texas A&M got off to a hot start taking the first set on five courts. Graduate student Tatum Rice got the lone point for the Razorbacks, coming back from a 1-6 first set to force a third set tiebreaker. In the second set, battled back from a 3-0 deficit to claim the tiebreaker 7-4. Rice pulled out a 10-2 third-set tiebreaker to grab her third-ranked win over No. 16 Carson Branstine. Rice improves to 11-7 at the No.1 position and 7-6 against nationally-ranked opponents.
The Razorbacks are back on the courts Sunday, April 17 when they take on the No. 69 LSU Tigers for Senior Night at 12 p.m. CT.
