
No. 33 Women’s Tennis Host No. 6 Texas A&M and LSU in Final Home Weekend
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 33 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team (14-7, 7-4) concludes regular season play at home this weekend, hosting No. 6 Texas A&M (25-1, 11-0) on Friday and No. 69 LSU (4-12, 3-8) on Sunday. Friday’s match against Texas A&M will be aired on the Cracked Racquets broadcast as part of their SEC Tennis Redzone coverage.
The Razorbacks improved to 14-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play, going on the road to beat No. 63 Mississippi State and No. 42 Ole Miss. Arkansas has now won seven SEC matches, their most wins in conference play since 2017.
Graduate student Tatum Rice had an impressive weekend, racking up two ranked singles wins to clinch the victory over Mississippi State and improve to 10-7 at the No. 1 position. Her two wins put her into the singles rankings for the first time this season at No. 99. In doubles alongside partner Morgan Cross, the duo won their match over their Bulldogs opponent to move to 11-4 on court one, coming in at No. 43 in the latest ITA Rankings.
The Aggies stand atop of the Southeastern Conference standings, remaining perfect in conference play this season. They have now won 16-straight matches and have shut out three teams in their last four matches. At the No. 1 position for the Aggies is No. 16 Carson Branstine who boasts a 13-5 record in singles play this season, winning four straight. At court two is No. 18 Tatiana Makarova who has won her last twenty matches, to remain perfect this spring. In doubles, the No. 2 ranked team in the country is the tandem of Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova who are 27-5 overall and 18-2 this dual season.
The Tigers last time out was at home against Texas A&M where they were defeated 7-0. Leading the Tigers is Safiya Carrington who is 4-6 in the No. 1 position, having lost her last two matches. LSU has played a variety of doubles pairings, their most success coming from Nina Geissler and Mia Rabinowitz who are 4-3 at court three.
Friday’s match against the Aggies is set to begin at 5 p.m. and Sunday’s match against the Tigers is set to start at 12 p.m., where Arkansas’ two seniors will be recognized both taking place at Billingsley Tennis Center.
