
No. 37 Razorbacks Take Down No. 51 Rebels in SEC Opener, 4-3
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 37 Arkansas men’s tennis team (11-3, 1-0) earned its first SEC opening win since 2019 after a 4-3 victory over No. 51 Ole Miss (8-2, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Rebels gained the early advantage with a win on court three, as Kamrowski/Schlagenhauf defeated Marino Jakic and Lukas Palovic, 6-2. The Razorbacks responded with Božo Barun and Benni Emesz securing a 6-4 victory against Chambonniere/Martin at the No. 2 position.
The doubles point came down to the top spot as Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba clinched the point for the Hogs after a 7-5 win over Milburn/Stromberg. The victory for Smillie and Vrba marks their sixth dual doubles win together this spring.
The Razorbacks struck first in singles play with Arthur Bellegy taking down Milburn 6-1, 6-3 on court six, while No. 102 Vrba cruised to a straight-set victory against Lestir at the No. 4 position, giving Arkansas a 3-0 lead in the match in addition to maintaining his perfect 8-0 record this spring. Ole Miss answered with a win on court three as Stromberg bested Jakic, 6-4, 6-2.
The Hogs clinched the match at the top spot as Barun overcame a first-set loss to defeat Kamrowski, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1, for his fifth clincher and seventh dual singles victory this season. The Rebels collected two more singles points on courts five and two, respectively, as Emesz and Palovic both fell in three sets to close out the match.
Arkansas is back in action on Monday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m. to face No. 22 Oklahoma at Edmond Center Court.
