
No. 39 Arkansas Dominates in Upset of No. 12 Texas A&M, 4-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 39 Arkansas men’s tennis team (12-4, 2-1) earned its second straight top-12 win over Texas A&M after cruising to a 4-1 upset victory against the No. 12 Aggies (7-5, 1-1) Friday evening at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks have now won four of the last six meetings with Texas A&M, including three top-12 victories over the Aggies. With the win, the Hogs own 10 victories against ranked opponents since the start of the 2024 season. Arkansas improves to 2-1 in SEC play this spring, the program’s best conference record through three matches since 2017.
Arkansas took the early 1-0 advantage with a doubles sweep, its seventh of the year. Božo Barun and Benni Emesz teamed up to collect a 6-3 win over Pires/Roddick on court two, while Brendan Boland and Marino Jakic paired up for the first time this season to claim a 6-3 victory against Magadan/Pinho at the No. 3 position to secure the doubles point for the Razorbacks. Connor Smillie Jakub Vrba’s match at the top spot went unfinished with the duo trailing No. 24 Perego/Tokac, 4-5.
The Hogs carried their momentum into singles play, grabbing the first set on five courts and eventually clinching the match with four straight-set wins. On court four, No. 102 Vrba improved to 9-1 this spring after a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory over Casper to give Arkansas a 2-0 lead. Texas A&M scored its only point of the match following a 6-3, 6-4 win from Pires against Jakic at the No. 3 position.
The Razorbacks extended their lead again after a 6-3, 6-3 victory from Barun over No. 37 Roddick on court one. The win for Barun is his first victory against a ranked opponent this year after recording three last season. The Hogs clinched the upset at the No. 6 position as Arthur Bellegy picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Perego.
Arkansas returns to Billingsley Tennis Center for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 2 to face No. 18 Tennessee at 12 p.m. and Southern Miss at 5 p.m.
