No. 40 Women’s Tennis On the Road for Two SEC Matchups
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 40 Arkansas women’s tennis team (9-8, 2-5) hits the road for a pair of SEC matches against No. 27 Vanderbilt (9-5, 4-3) on Friday, March 29, at 3 p.m. and No. 63 Kentucky (7-9, 1-6) on Sunday, March 31, at noon CT.
The Razorbacks split their two matches last weekend versus No. 12 Florida and No. 15 South Carolina. In the first match against the Gators, Kelly Keller earned her first ranked singles victory of the spring after a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win against No. 52 Dahlstrom.
The Hogs bounced back with a 4-1 victory over the short-handed Gamecocks as Arkansas claimed the doubles point following a win by forfeit on court three and a victory on court two from Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell. In singles, South Carolina had to forfeit courts five and six because of their limited lineup, leaving the Razorbacks within one point of winning the match. Morgan Cross picked up her third singles victory this dual season with a straight-set win against Kantor to clinch the upset.
The No. 27 Commodores have started the year 9-5 overall and 4-3 in SEC play, falling to No. 11 Texas A&M before defeating No. 40 LSU last weekend on the road. Vanderbilt is led by junior No. 11 Célia-Belle Mohr and sophomore Bridget Stammel at the No. 1 and the No. 2 positions, respectively. Mohr has collected three ranked victories this spring while also leading the team with 10 singles wins. No. 33 Mohr and senior Anessa Lee have posted an 8-3 doubles record on court one while Stammel and freshman Valeria Ray are 8-2 overall this dual season.
The No. 63 Wildcats are coming off an 0-2 weekend on the road, dropping their matches to No. 40 LSU and No. 11 Texas A&M. Kentucky will host Missouri on Friday before its match against the Hogs on Sunday. Freshman Julia Zhu leads the Wildcats with 10 singles victories at the No. 5 position and has won eight of her last nine matches. Senior Elizabeth Stevens heads the Kentucky singles lineup while sophomore Ellie Myers has secured nine victories on court six. In doubles play, Stevens and senior Makayla Mills are ranked No. 63 and have recorded four wins this spring.
Live coverage of the Kentucky match will be provided by Cracked Racquets as part of the SEC CrossCourt whip-around broadcast streamed on SEC Network+. Live stats & video links for both matches are available on the women’s tennis schedule page.
