No. 41 Arkansas Hosts No. 39 LSU, No. 11 Texas A&M for Final Regular Season Home Matches
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 41 Arkansas women’s tennis team (10-9, 3-6) is set to host its final two regular season matches at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend as the Razorbacks welcome No. 39 LSU (11-8, 3-6) on Friday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m. and No. 11 Texas A&M (16-6, 8-1) on Sunday, April 7, at 11 a.m. for a pair of SEC contests.
The Hogs split their two road matches last weekend versus No. 27 Vanderbilt and No. 63 Kentucky. In the first match against the Commodores, Arkansas took the doubles point after wins from Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell on court two and Kelly Keller/Carolina Gomez Alonso at the No. 3 position. No. 26 Gomez Alonso earned the highest ranked singles victory of her career with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 11 Mohr, while Stara picked up a three-set win on court five against Macavei.
The Razorbacks bounced back with a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats after being down 3-1 in the match before storming back behind wins from Gomez Alonso, Stara, Morgan Cross, and Kacie Harvey to secure the road victory over Kentucky.
No. 39 LSU is 11-8 overall and 3-6 in SEC play this year after a loss to then-No. 13 Texas A&M last Friday. The Tigers are headlined by junior No. 99 Florentine Dekkers in the top spot and graduate Aran Teixidó Garcia at the No. 2 position. LSU is led in singles wins by junior Anita Sahdiieva, who has 11 victories this spring while primarily playing on court three. Dekkers and Garcia hold an 11-6 doubles record together this season.
After its win last Friday, No. 11 Texas A&M is now 16-6 overall and 8-1 in SEC contests this year. The Aggies will play at Missouri on Friday before their match against the Hogs on Sunday. Texas A&M is led by the No. 1 ranked ITA singles player in junior Mary Stoiana, who has collected 16 wins this spring in the top spot. The Aggie lineup also features sophomores No. 18 Nicole Khirin and No. 38 Mia Kupres, who have primarily played on courts two and three this season and hold a 31-7 combined record. Junior Jeanette Mireles and freshman Lucciana Perez have both secured at least 10 victories in singles competition this spring. In doubles, the tandem of Kupres and Stoiana are ranked No. 5 in the ITA doubles rankings and are 13-3 at the No. 1 position this season.
