No. 46 Arkansas Takes Down Mississippi State, Earns Sixth-Straight Win Over Bulldogs
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team (11-11, 4-8) secured its sixth-straight win over Mississippi State (10-15, 0-12) after a 6-1 victory on Friday afternoon at A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
The Razorbacks took the early 1-0 advantage with another doubles sweep. Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell teamed up to earn a 6-3 win on court two, while Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso claimed a 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point for the Hogs. No. 53 Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel’s match went unfinished with the score tied 4-4.
Cross started out strong in singles play, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 position to obtain the first singles win. Stara followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court three, while No. 31 Gomez Alonso clinched the match for Arkansas after a 6-3, 6-3 win in the top spot.
Mississippi State earned their only point of the match at No. 2 position after Keller retired in the third set as the remaining courts were played out. Kacie Harvey picked up another point for the Razorbacks, grabbing a 7-5, 6-2 victory on court five. Koskel closed out the match with a straight-set win at the No. 6 position to secure the final point of the match for the Hogs.
Arkansas is back in action on Sunday, April 14, at 1 p.m. to face No. 38 Ole Miss on the road at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
